Summer doesn’t slow us down at JLM Sound. We’re just getting warmed up! As always, our clients are in the news again:
July started off with a track that Joe mastered—”4th of July” by The Dig—getting selected for Spotify’s official “Weekend Buzz” playlist (followed by almost 70,000 subscribers) and picked as track of the day by the UK music blog xsnoize.
Shortly thereafter, another of Joe’s clients, Holy Forest, premiered an excellent new video on Questlove‘s alternative hip hop website Okayplayer.com. It features members of Antibalas, as well as Tata Din Din Jobarteh, “the Jimi Hendrix of the kora”. This is a really great one! Check it out in the clip embedded at the end of this post.
In other news, Electrify Mag ran an interview with another of our clients, the bossa nova-inspired indie dance-pop duo Sofi Tukker, while Consequence of Sound did a profile of our LA-based dreampop clients Nightjacket, and shared their latest track.
Justin Colletti’s mastering clients have getting plenty of press as well: This past weekend, LADYGUNN premiered a new track and video by Nola Wren (a thoroughly addictive dance/pop/rock single).
Earlier, the band AMFM gave a sneak preview of their new single “Broom” on New Jersey’s rock radio station WDHA (105.5 FM). The station picked up this compelling local act immediately, playing the new track one day after their mastering session at JLM with Justin!
Justin has also been keeping busy shooting a regular video series for SonicScoop here at the studio. Check out recent posts on Soundproofing & Acoustic Treatment, Recording Full Length Albums, DIY “Mastering”, and Finding Fans For Your Music.
Also be sure to peruse new Justin’s article series “Mix Advice From Your Mastering Engineer” right here on the JLM Blog, including his most recent post on using Mix Bus Compression. Stay tuned for the next installment coming later this week!
Last but not least, we’re excited that engineer Jon Hildenstein has joined the JLM family, and will be providing mastering services here along with Joe, Justin and Roman.
And now for something really fun…. As promised, check out the video for “Africa Calling” from Holy Forest below and keep your eyes peeled for their full-length release coming this fall!
